"Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Cæsar, or no? 23But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? 24Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Cæsar's. 25And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which be Cæsar's, and unto God the things which be God's. 26And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace." -Luke 20:22-26, KJV.
It amazes me how many Christians honestly believe that they should not have to pay taxes simply because they are Christians! This is absolute foolishness. Since God set up original government through capital punishment in Genesis, through a republic later in Exodus, and a monarchy later in 1 Samuel, why would He support not funding it? Jesus Himself commands us here that we are to pay the government what we owe them, and not neglect to give God His 10% tithe and additional offerings. We are never to neglect tithing, but we are also not to neglect taxation.
