"My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up." -Psalm 5:3, KJV
David was a "man after God's own heart," and here is the main reason that is the case. He was always faithful in his prayer life. Every morning he prayed to God, and he was so faithful that he didn't even have to bat an eye to tell God to listen for him in the morning because he would be there. Having a constant prayer life can be challenging, but it is also worth it. God wants to hear from us, and He went to great lengths to make Himself accessible to us. It is so sad when people just throw that aside.
