"Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war." -Proverbs 20:18.

God gave us influencers for a reason. Sometimes we are too close to a situation to really understand the best path to take (missing the forest for the trees, if you will). If we follow godly counsel (especially through prayer) and trust God to direct us, then He will guide us.
