"A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent." -Proverbs 15:5, KJV.

We as Christians are to welcome our parent's instruction, especially when we are still in the house. However, once we've grown up and are out of the house, we should not abandon their counsel and training we received for many years. While the Bible should be our absolute foundation, godly parents are a wonderful influence (one which I was so blessed to have) for our lives. Parents will never stop wanting to help, and we should never stop wanting to listen (even if we don't think quite the same way).
Please note that I am not talking about being "overattached" to parents. The Bible clearly teaches in both the OT and NT that men are to leave home and cleave to their wives, creating a distinct family unit. The point of this post is to simply be willing to listen to parents' instruction.

  1. Good parents will not only "never stop wanting to help" but they will also encourage their children to GO and make those "distinct family units." I love you, son, and I'm proud of you and your family. You're doing a great job.

    Love, Mum
