"The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD." -Proverbs 16:33, #KJV
This verse illustrates God's sovereignty over everything in this world. The lot was how God would reveal His will in OT times (before the complete Word of God was available). All we can do as Christians is to throw our "lot" (vote) in, and let God do the rest--even if it appears to be the complete opposite of what we think we need. God knows more than we do, and we need to simply trust Him.

Note: This verse should never be used to promote gambling, even though the word lot is translated as dice in at least one version. While I do not have time to go into all the reasons one shouldn't gamble, Philippians 4:11 tells us we should be content and verse 19 of that same passage tells us that we need to trust God to supply all our needs. If we go gambling, even just for fun, we are not being content, and we are definitely not trusting God.
"Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." -Philippians 4:11, 19, KJV
